Breeder: Hermann Meyer
The world of equitation and dressage lost, in 2011, one of its greatest protagonists: Weltmeyer. Born in 1984 under the care of breeder Hermann Meyer, this stallion marked an era, becoming a figurehead for many breeders and riders around the world. His story is steeped in success, recognition and a legacy that continues to influence the Hanoverian breed.
Genealogy
Weltmeyer is the result of the mating of World Cup I, a stallion who, although considered a bit old-fashioned by modern standards, has left an indelible mark on the equestrian scene. World Cup I was awarded the title of Hanoverian stallion of the year in 1996 and became sire to internationally renowned dressage horses, including Isabell Werth’s well-known Grand Prix “Welcome.” His pedigree was enriched by the presence of Absatz, his maternal grandfather, who is known to have sired such illustrious stallions as Argentan (Argentinus), Arsenik and Akzent I. Weltmeyer’s mother, Anka, represents a broodmare of quality, thus contributing to a genetic ascendancy of excellence.
Weltmeyer’s career
Weltmeyer was not slow to make a name for himself from his youth. Presented to the public in 1986 at the Verden stud for approval, his performance impressed judges and fellow breeders alike, leading to his unqualified approval. A decisive step in his career came in 1987, when he won the performance test at Adelheidsdorf, demonstrating his outstanding athletic ability and potential as a stallion.
That same year, Weltmeyer also made a name for himself at the Federal German Riding Horse Championships in Warendorf, taking first place in the three-year-old stallion standings. Therefore such successes represented not only a personal victory, but laid the foundation for what was to be a bright future in the equestrian world.
Awards
In 1988, his career continued on the rise: he was awarded in Verden as the best stallion in his age group and received the prestigious “Freiherr von Stenglin-Prize.” The following year, at the 1989 DLG in Frankfurt, Weltmeyer again distinguished himself, establishing his reputation as an outstanding stallion. Finally, in 1998, he was awarded the title “Hanoverian Stallion of the Year,” an accolade that underscored his commitment and success in promoting the Hanoverian breed.
Weltmeyer’s equestrian career has had a lasting impact on the Hanoverian breed. With a dressage index of 152 points, he ranks among the top ten dressage stallions in the world. To date, he has produced as many as 70 licensed offspring, all stallions of great quality, proving that his talent is reflected not only in his performance but also in his offspring.
Weltmeyer has been able to reshape the Hanoverian breed, giving it distinctive characteristics that have enhanced its dressage ability. His legacy is reflected in the successes of his descendants who continue to excel in international competitions, carrying his name around the world and strengthening the breed’s reputation.
A long life
Weltmeyer’s passing on June 27, 2011, due to a severe bout of colic, left an unbridgeable void in the hearts of those who admired him. At the age of 27, he closed a chapter of successes, adventures and achievements in the equestrian world. However, his spirit lives on through his heirs, his performances and the passion he inspired in breeders and riders.
The ending
In memory of Weltmeyer, we celebrate not only an outstanding stallion, but also a beacon of hope for the Hanoverian breed. His life is an example of dedication, talent and passion that continues to resonate in every corner of the equestrian world. Every time a dressage horse performs with grace and power, there is a trace of Weltmeyer’s legacy, which lives on and thrives through future generations. We remember him not only as a stallion, but as a symbol of excellence in horsemanship.
